AMTA CALIFORNIA CHAPTER
ELECTION OF DELEGATE NOMINEES
A. Qualifications
1. Must be a Professional Classification member in good standing and may be a candidate only in the Chapter in which they are assigned.
2. Must be able to the Chapter Convention meeting and be present for their election.
3. Must be able to attend the entire duration of the National Convention.
B. Elections
1. Each Active Unit may elect two (2) delegate nominees at a Unit Business meeting held prior to the Chapter Convention.
2. Unit members shall be notified of the time, place and location of elections.
3. Nominations shall be made from the floor with the qualifying information. It is not mandatory that a candidate be present at the Unit meeting, but the nominee's permission must have been obtained.
4. The Unit membership shall elect their delegate nominees by majority vote done by secret, written ballot unless there is only one candidate at which time a voice vote may be taken.
5. The Chapter Office Administrator shall be notified of the names of the Units' delegate nominees immediately following the elections.
6. In the event that some Units do not nominate a candidate and there are fewer nominees that the nominee pool, nominations shall be taken from the Chapter Convention Assembly floor.
7. Delegate nominees at the Chapter Convention will be asked to present a two (2) minute, qualifying statement to the General Assembly who will have final authority in the election of the state delegates.
C. Term of Office
1. Elected delegates and alternates shall serve from January 1 through December 31 of the year following the year in which they were elected.
2. A delegate shall serve no more than two consecutive elected terms.
AMTA-CA CHAPTER DELEGATE COORDINATOR
PURPOSE
The Chapter Delegate Coordinator shall coordinate Chapter Delegate activities as a representative of the Chapter membership to the annual House of Delegates meeting held during National AMTA Convention.
AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY
1. The Chapter Delegate Coordinator is given authority by the Chapter Board of Directors.
2. The Chapter Delegate Coordinator is selected by the elected Delegates, appointed by the Chapter President and ratified by the Chapter Board and as specified in the Chapter Standing Rules.
3. The Chapter Delegate Coordinator is accountable to the Chapter Board by virtue of appointment and reports to the Chapter President or designated Board Liaison.
4. The Chapter Delegate Coordinator is accountable to the members by virtue of selection and reports Delegate activities to the members as required.
REQUIREMENTS OF OFFICE
1. May attend all Chapter Board of Directors meetings at the request of the Chapter President or the Chapter Board as necessary.
2. May attend Officer's Retreat.
3. Agrees to uphold and abide by National AMTA Bylaws and Code of Ethics, AMTA-CA Chapter Standing Rules, Financial Policies & Procedures, and Human Resources Guidelines.
4. Must be in attendance at Chapter Convention to be elected.
5. Must be in attendance at all House of Delegates meetings during National Convention.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Must be a Professional Member in good standing.
2. Must reside in the State of California.
TERM OF OFFICE
Chapter Delegate Coordinator is elected and appointed on a yearly basis, after Chapter elections are held. Term of office shall be from January 1 through December 31 of the year following the year in which they were elected.
FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
CHAPTER:
a. Coordinate Chapter Delegate activities.
b. Create, maintain and distribute a Chapter Delegate
roster to include:
1. Delegate names in order as elected by plurality vote
2. Alternate Delegate names in order as elected by plurality vote
3. Member number
4. Address
5. Phone number
6. E-mail address
c. Prepare and submit resolutions to the House of Delegates based on input and suggestions from Chapter members.
d. Receive and disseminate information such as resolutions to Chapter Delegates.
e. Develop and implement a plan to solicit and obtain member input on resolutions.
f. Study materials and otherwise prepare the Delegates for the House of Delegates meeting.
g. Vote in an informed manner.
h. Submit articles/surveys to the Chapter Newsletter Editor for publication:
1. Information on resolutions to be brought before the House of Delegates (Summer issue, deadline July 1).
2. Results of House of Delegates meeting (Fall or Winter Issue, deadline October 1 or January 1).
i. Report Delegate Activities to the Chapter Board of Directors.
j. Submit annual budget information to Budget Committee.
2. UNITS
a. Solicit Unit Officer's opinion and input during annual Officer's Retreat.
b. Submit delegate information to Units.
1. For publication in Unit newsletter.
2. For announcement at Unit meetings.
c. Attend Unit meetings where possible.
d. Attend the annual Unit Officer and First Timers breakfast at Chapter Convention.
3. NATIONAL
a. Represent the Chapter and its members at the House of Delegates meeting at National AMTA Convention.
b. Receive Delegate information from National AMTA.
c. Provide Chapter Delegate and Alternate Delegate roster to House of Delegates National AMTA staff liaison.
AMTA-CA DELEGATES
PURPOSE
To represent the unique interests of California membership that:
1. Approves AMTA position statement as per policy;
2. Makes recommendations to the National Board of Directors, as per policy, regarding AMTA bylaws, AMTA's mission and goals, matters internal to the HOD, and the business of the Association in general.
3. Hears reports pertinent to the business of the HOD.
Duties
1. Attend their Unit meetings, the Chapter Convention and the National Convention. Initiate member involvement in discussion and hear opinions on matters coming before the House of Delegates.
2. Study materials and otherwise prepare for the HOD meeting.
3. Attend and participate in the HOD meeting and to vote in an informed manner.
4. Be available to report on their voting record and participation in the HOD meeting.
